ABS-03 Flight Information
Launched on May 12, 2007 from ASU Campus in Newport, AR
During this flight a miscalculation of lift resulted in a very low ascent rate. The balloon flew for over four hours and primary radio batteries began to fail. With the loss of altitude information, the launch team did a great job to determine when the balloon was descending using just lat & long data. Max altitude was difficult to determine, but it is believed that the balloon exceeded 80,000 ft. For the first time the Arkansas team used a 1500 gram balloon. Recovery was made in difficult terrain and required the use of a lift and shotgun to retrieve the payloads the next day.
